SAN ANGELO, Texas — A Nissan Maxima hit a tree and four high school athletes were injured Tuesday morning, Nov. 5, 2013.
The athletes were member of the Central High School football team. they were taken to an area hospital.
The single-vehicle crash occurred at the intersections of South Bishop and Live Oak around 8:20 a.m.
Police said Joseph Brooks, 17, was driving the Nissan eastbound on Live Oaks and turned left onto South Bishop. The car went out of control, hit an electrical pole and then struck the tree head-on.
Also injured were passengers Gabriel Hernandez, 15, Semaj Teagul, 15, and Zavion Arzola, 16. The last was transported to San Angelo Community Medical Center, and the other three were taken to Shannon Medical Center.
Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, although Teagul was said to be in substantial pain. Each of the four teens was wearing a seatbelt.
