Nurse Killed, Doctor Hurt on FM 485

CAMERON, Texas — A College Station nurse was killed and a Temple doctor was hurt in a two-vehicle wreck on FM 485 Thursday morning, Feb. 7, 2013 in the vicinity of Cameron in Milam County.

Dead at the scene ws Kirsten Salerno, 28, who was a doctoral student at Texas A&M University. Injured was Dr. Allan Nickel, 63, who was taken to Temple’s Scott & White Hospital with serious injuries, including injuries to his face.

The crash occurred about 7 a.m. when Salerno was heading west in a 2007 Toyota sedan on FM 485 in the vicinity of Milam County Road 132. A 2012 Toyota Prius heading east and driven by Nickel then went across the center line and hit her car on the driver’s side.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

Salerno’s husband is Stefano Salerno, and English teacher and head boys soccer coach at A&M Consolidated High School.
